Introductory Course (TESOL) One week

This short TEFL course is designed for those who would like to acquire a basic range of TESOL teaching skills as well as those who would like to experience a TEFL taster course and find out whether English teaching is for them.

Teacher Training Sessions

These sessions, which take place daily, focus on practical application to the classroom (both group and one-to-one classes).

The course covers:

  • techniques for managing classes, teaching vocabulary and pronunciation
  • activities and techniques to develop your students' listening, reading, writing and conversation skills.
  • basic skills in analysing language

You will learn to plan classes using a variety of materials including pictures, role play, dialogues and songs.  Additional sessions will be available, depending on demand, for example:

  • teaching younger learners
  • teaching one-to-one
  • teaching English as part of a local church outreach.

Observation of Experienced Teachers

You will observe a language class taught by an experienced teacher. Guided observation tasks will help you focus on specific aspects of the lesson.

Teaching Practice

You will teach language students from all over the world in practice classes. Trainees are placed in small, teaching practice groups, each supervised by an experienced trainer. You will receive a high level of tutor support, including detailed guidance and oral and written feedback for each lesson.

Tutor Support

Throughout the course, the tutors will provide you with help as required. At the end of the course, they are available to help you consider your next step and provide any necessary information and advice.

Christian TESOL Focus

The course has a strong Christian emphasis.  Each morning begins with worship and prayer, and the course focuses on issues of relevance to the Christian English teacher.

Certificate

This course leads to the International Training Network Introductory Certificate in TESOL.

Location

The course takes place in Bournemouth, on the south coast of England. This is a beautiful area which is popular with holiday visitors and international students alike.

Continued Support

On completion of the course, you will be granted free, permanent membership of our Network Online Community.  This gives you free access to an online zone where you can continue to interact with other Christian TESOL teachers and with the tutors after the course has ended.  The zone also contains ideas and resources for classroom activities and information about English teaching opportunities worldwide.
