Method of learning

The TESOL Practical Toolkit course takes place on our online "learning zone" which is easy and enjoyable to use. You will be able to access the course via the internet whenever you wish, and work on the materials and activities at your own pace during the enrolment period of 6 months.

One of the key features of the learning zone is the opportunity it provides to interact with other participants through forum postings.

Learning takes place through a variety of learning activities and materials such as resource sheets, quizzes and video clips of classroom teaching (these can be viewed online or via a CD ROM).

An important aspect of the course is the use of tasks with answer keys, enabling you to consolidate your understanding of the techniques and activities introduced. In addition, some English teaching activities are suggested for you to try out with your English-speaking or international friends.

Each unit includes one or two short assignments which are marked by your online tutor.

Personal tutor

You will be assigned an experienced tutor who is available throughout the course for advice and support. Your tutor will also mark and provide feedback on your assignments.

Continued support

On completion of the course, you will be granted free membership of our Network Online Community.  This gives you permanent, free access to the online zone where you can continue to interact with other Christian TESOL teachers and with the tutors after the course has ended.  The zone also contains ideas and resources for classroom activities and information about English teaching opportunities worldwide.

Teaching practice

A one-week face-to-face teaching practice course - the Classroom Experience - is available for those who wish to supplement the online course with some teaching practice and are able to come to Bournemouth in the U.K.

"I had been involved in the local churches Language Project, teaching English to asylum seekers, for a year before taking this course. What a difference it has made to my classes!

I'm much more confident about planning lessons because now I know how to structure them and how to get the most out of each activity. When I did the 'Using Pictures to Create Interest' activity, the class applauded at the end because they enjoyed it so much! Thank you to all at ITN". Jenny M.

"I have been working overseas for 6 years, and at various times have tried to lead English clubs and classes.  I've struggled to know how best to help people grow in their English skills.  This course has opened my eyes to many new ideas and methods of helping students grow in speaking, reading, and listening skills...

I've been given so many new ideas. This course has been like a springboard for me providing a great place from which to launch out into more effective and creative English teaching.Thank you for this wonderful course!!" Marie L.

"I'm an English teacher from Russia. I really very much enjoyed the course. I found there a lot of useful, creative thoughts, suggestions, material. I began to practice all that I was taught in my English classes and in the English club. The classes became more interesting, vivid. Thank you very much for your great job!" Tatiana S.
