How to Teach Grammar - online course

This 20-hour online TESOL course covers a range of techniques and ideas, essential for Christian teachers of English who wish to teach grammar to students from beginner to advanced levels.

Course content

  • Techniques to help students analyse and understand grammar: form, meaning and pronunciation
  • Presenting grammar: procedures for the core 'grammar teaching' stage of the lesson
  • Special focus on using timelines and concept checking questions
  • Practising grammar: how to devise, choose and manage a wide range of appropriate grammar practice activities

Method of learning

The How to Teach Grammar course takes place on our online "learning zone" which is easy and enjoyable to use. You will be able to access the course via the internet whenever you wish, and work on the materials and activities at your own pace, during the enrolment period of 3 months.  It is also possible, if you wish, to enrol and work with others as part of an online group.

Learning takes place through a variety of learning activities and materials such as resource sheets, quizzes and video clips of classroom teaching (the clips can be viewed online or via a CD ROM).

An important aspect of the course is the use of tasks with answer keys, enabling you to consolidate your understanding of the techniques and activities introduced.  Each unit includes one or two short assignments which are marked by your online tutor.

Personal tutor

You will be assigned an experienced tutor who is available throughout the course for advice and support. Your tutor will also provide feedback on your assignments.

Continued support

On completion of the course, you will be granted free membership of our Network Online Community. This gives you allows permanent, free access to the online zone where you can continue to interact with other Christian TESOL teachers and with the tutors after the course has ended.  The zone also contains ideas and resources for classroom activities and information about English teaching opportunities worldwide.

Teaching practice

A one-week face-to-face teaching practice course - The Classroom Experience - is available for those who wish to supplement the online course with some teaching practice and are able to come to Bournemouth in the U.K.
